LITTLE ROCK – Movies in the Park, the FREE outdoor movie series at the
Riverfest Amphitheater, wrapped up its 2007 season with record attendance
numbers.
The eight 2007 Movies in the Park films had an average crowd of more than
980 moviegoers with a total of more than 7,900 people attending the
Wednesday night film series throughout the year. Wizard of Oz on August 1
set an attendance record for the 3-year-old series with a crowd of over
1,700.
Popularity for Movies in the Park has grown since the series averaged 450
people per film in its inaugural season in 2005 and 600 per movie in 2006.
“The momentum for Movies in the Park continues to grow from
season-to-season and we are thrilled that downtown and the city as a whole
have embraced this concept,” said Blake Rutherford, volunteer founder of
Movies in the Park. “We have to thank our sponsors for their support to
make free outdoor movies possible in Little Rock.”
Movies in the Park sponsors are Baptist Health, Comcast, Entergy, the
Little Rock Downtown Partnership, the Little Rock Convention and Visitors
Bureau, Moses Tucker, the River Market and Stone Ward.
“Movies in the Park makes a tremendous impact on the entertainment and
cultural experience downtown,” said Sharon Priest, executive director of
the Little Rock Downtown Partnership. “It brings a diverse crowd downtown
to not only enjoy the movies, but also to eat dinner, shop and enjoy all
that downtown has to offer.”
